Kate Bell

Kate Bell is a painter living and working in Mumbles, Swansea. She studied Fine Art and English in Canterbury and has an MA in Fine Art from Swansea College of Art. She has worked as a Head of Department and lecturer within both Secondary and Higher Education in Art and Design over the last thirty years and was a Lead Creative Agent for the Arts Council of Wales.

Much of the inspiration for her colourful abstract landscapes, rendered mainly in oils and charcoal, comes directly from the coastline of Gower and her paintings attempt to capture the essence and the energy of a place.

Her work responds to landscape, through experience, myth and legend. She is fascinated by combining art forms, responding to both music and poetry through line, colour, texture and shape. Kate knows the landscape of Gower well, having lived there most of her life and this helps her to work through sketches and paintings both in the environment but also through memory and imagination back in the studio.
